Year 3

The Year 3 children have become fantastic musicians and can now play a range of notes on the recorder. They can also read music, follow the notes and play along! This week, the children had a go at composing their own tunes to play. Take a look at their skills. IMG_5806

Year 3 have started a new unit in DT, all about pneumatics. The children found out that pneumatics means powered by air, and explored some different basic pneumatic systems. Keep checking back for how they build upon their ideas.

As part of this year’s art unit, the Year 3 children explored painting on a range of different surfaces. We discussed which ones worked better than others, and looked at colour brightness and paint and coverage.

Year three enjoyed exploring shapes through tangrams. We tried the shadow shape challenge first then simplified the image slightly to reveal where the shapes fit.

Today our Penathlon Team competed in the Gateshead SSP competition at Temple Park! 🥇They came an outstanding first place, gaining their place in the County Finals happening later this year. Well done to you all. Your behaviour was impeccable throughout! ⭐️

We’ve had such fun in year three this week making crafts, a visit from the reading elf and a carol service at church! Happy Christmas everyone!

We’ve been working on our chiaroscuro skills in art, meaning ‘the use of strong contrasts between light and dark’. We tried applying our new skills to half and half self portraits. What do you think?
