Year 5

Another amazing lunch at Front Street. The lunch staff have worked their magic again and made all the children some lovely treats on Monday!    

We looked at biodiversity in the school grounds and the threats to local birds. We designed bird stations, then used the internet to consider the cost and sustainability of them. Global Goal 15 Articles 28

Year 5 had visitors from Durham University to develop our knowledge about Ancient Greeks. Article 29

We have been learning about how cam mechanisms work. We learned about cams and followers, and tested our own ideas to see how they worked. We also learned about the history of cams, and where they are used today.

We created self portraits inspired by Roy Lichtenstein, the Pop Artist, who used bold primary colours and patterns of dots to give a ‘comic book’ style to his work. Can you spot anyone you know?

We’ve learned various hockey skills this term. Before our sessions, we took turns creating warm up routines and leading the class through them. Articles 29, 31

In Year 5, we’ve been learning to play the glockenspiels. We’ve also been using them (and online programs) to help us compose our own music. Look out for us headlining Glastonbury in a few years! UNCRC Articles 28, 29 and 31
