Year 3

Last week, Year 3 visited Whickham Comp for an athletics afternoon. They children had a great time and the Whickham School young leaders were fantastic!

Today, the Year 3 designed, made and adapted their F1 cars ready for competition next lesson. The children used their knowledge of wheels, axles and axle holders to hopefully make the car that will travel the furthest.

This afternoon, we explored how 3D materials could be used to create prints. We cut fruit and vegetables and shaped plasticine, then dipped it in paint and printed on the page. We learned that sometimes the effect was better with less paint!

Today, we were lucky enough to have the SSP Olympic Torch in school. We found out about the history of the Olympic Torch and then relayed the SSP Torch around the classes.

Year three have been learning about where our food comes from in geography. We took a stroll through Whickham and looked at what our local shops sell. Our History Ambassadors spent the morning with Local Historian Richard Pears, who took them on a history tour around the village. During our walk, we learned all sorts of interesting facts about Whickham’s history. Did you know “Whickham” is Anglo-Saxon, meaning “estate with a quickset hedge”?
