School Council Foodbank visit

Today our School Council visited the local foodbank warehouse, taking with us the staff Christmas collection and a few extras the children brought with them. Firstly we were surprised at how big the warehouse was and how many crates of food were on the shelves! We had a tour of the building by Jonathon (one of many volunteers), then had a question and answer session… did you know approx 150 families across Gateshead access the foodbank each week and that each individual in that family will receive 10kg of goods! The children took it in turns to weigh in the food that we collected as every item is accounted for in weight. We had 51.8kg of goods! Thank you to all who donated!
The visit was arranged as some of the children wanted to know where our Harvest Festival collection went. It highlighted just how much food is constantly needed as it is used all year round. It brought some very sensible thought provoking questions by the children and showed them how the act of giving can help those less fortunate. Article 27
