3P at Gibside!

3P have had the best day at Gibside!

In the morning we used scientific apparatus to explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in the local environment. We explored three different habitats and then compared the minibeasts that we found within each and linked this to our geography unit on Biomes and discussed how these minibeasts have adapted to live in their habitat.

In the afternoon, we used maps to describe features, followed the map’s symbols using the key and we used the eight points of a compass during Orienteering! The children used the compass to determine how to orientate the map and then worked as part of a team to find all the points that were situated all around the grounds within Gibside.

All in all, we covered Science, Geography and PE topics, walked over 14,000 steps (according to Mrs Apomah’s FitBit) and even had time for a quick well-deserved visit to Strawberry Castle to reward them for their behaviour today – behaviour that was complimented by multiple members of the public throughout the day.
